OVERVIEW OF WELL CHILD CARE

Objective:   Parents will understand the basics for preventing illnesses and disease.

Agenda:

  1. Discuss the importance of periodic medical assessments during the first year of life.
  2. Discuss the importance of immunizations.
  3. Discuss the role stress plays on the immune systems.

CHILDHOOD IMMUNIZATIONS

Objective:   Parents will understand the need for childhood immunizations.

Agenda:

  1. Discuss the eleven shots a child needs before the age of two.
  2. Discuss the side effects of immunizations and how to treat them.
  3. Discuss the current immunization schedule. Offer to review medical records and related documents.

MEDICAL ASSESSMENTS FOR BABIES

Objective:   Parents will understand what to expect on a well child pediatrician visit.

Agenda:

  1. Discuss why children need a pediatrician.
  2. Explain that no child should be without medical care because of cost or documentation. Make referrals, if needed.
  3. Discuss the recommended schedule for health care visits and what should be done on each visit.

KEEPING THE IMMUNE SYSTEM INTACT

Objective:   Parents will have a basic understanding of the immune system in keeping the child well.

Agenda:

  1. Discuss ways to keep the immune system in tact.
  2. Discuss the effects of stress in lowering the immune system.
  3. Discuss the role of adequate nutrition in keeping healthy.
