OVERVIEW OF BABY SAFETY

Objective:   Parents will gain an increased awareness of hazards in infancy.

Agenda:

  1. Discuss household hazards.
  2. Discuss infant car seats.
  3. Discuss infant CPR.

INFANT CAR SEATS

Objective:   Parents will gain knowledge about how and why car seats are used.

Agenda:

  1. Discuss the car seat law and the proper use of car seats.
  2. Discuss individual installation and the importance of following the manufacturer's directions.
  3. Discuss car seats precautions.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDS

Objective:   Parents will be motivated to safety proof their environment.

Agenda:

  1. Discuss viewing hazards from the infant's eye level.
  2. Point out household hazards and unsafe products. Show products that aid in household safety.
  3. Discuss household poisons and give out the poison control phone number.

INFANT CPR

Objective:   Parents will understand the basics of infant CPR.

Agenda:

  1. Discuss when CPR should be used.
  2. Demonstrate infant CPR.
  3. Observe and assist parents in doing return demonstrations of CPR.
