HOMEMADE TOYS FROM RECYCLABLES

FOAM BLOCKS

 Materials:
  • fabric remnant
  • upholstery foam (cut in squares)
  • scissors
  • needle
  • strong thread

Directions:
Cut fabric to cover foam block. Stitch fabric together at edges.

Ideas for Play:
Help Baby to squeeze blocks and transfer them hand to hand.

MILK CARTON BLOCKS

 Materials:
  • two milk cartons
  • contact paper
  • scissors

Directions:
Cut tops off of milk cartons. Push 2 cartons together. Decorate with contact paper.

Ideas for Play:
Stack blocks for Baby and encourage Baby to knock them down.

WOODEN BLOCKS

 Materials:
  • scraps of wood
  • sandpaper
  • non-toxic paint
  • paintbrush

Directions:
Sand edges of wood smooth. Paint faces, objects or shapes on front and back of block.

Ideas for Play:
Bang blocks with Baby together and on various surfaces.

PLASTIC NESTING CUPS

 Materials:
  • detergent lid
  • margarine tub
  • cottage cheese container
  • large nail
  • permanent markers

Directions:
Decorate cups with markers. Punch holes in the bottom and sides of one of the cups.

Ideas for Play:
Play with cups in water. Help Baby to dump and pour and strain water.
