HOMEMADE TOYS FROM RECYCLABLES

PEEK-A-BOO BLANKET

 Materials:
  • 15" X 15" piece of felt
  • fabric glue
  • scissors

Directions:
Cut animal shapes, designs or facial features from remnants. Glue on blanket.

Ideas for Play:
Hide parts of Baby's toy under the blanket and help Baby search for the toy.

ROLLING ANIMAL PICTURES

 Materials:
  • round containers (oatmeal, cornmeal,or salt)
  • magazine pictures, photographs
  • clear contact paper
  • glue
  • scissors

Directions:
Attach pictures all around outside of container. Cover with clear contact paper.

Ideas for Play:
Baby to push, roll, and visually track the toy from various position.

ZIPLOC BAG ANIMAL BOOK

 Materials:
  • Ziploc bags
  • glue
  • cardboard
  • scissors
  • magazine/photographs of animals
  • stickers
  • markers
  • 20" shoelace, 25" ribbon or cording

Directions:
Cut cardboard to fit inside Ziploc bag. Decorate cardboard with pictures, stickers, drawings and words. Put inside bag and "zip" closed. Repeat until 2-5 "pages" can be assembled. Punch holes along edge of pages and thread ribbon or cord through. Tie into a bow.

Ideas for Play:
Encourage Baby to point to pictures in book. Give Baby words to label pictures.

PEEK-A-BOO PICTURE

 Materials:
  • large plastic lid (from coffee, oatmeal, cornmeal, etc.)
  • photograph or magazine picture
  • 6" X 6" fabric remnant
  • duct or electrical tape
  • scissors

Directions:
Tape the photo or magazine picture to the center of the lid. Tape the fabric over the photo on the top edge only.

Ideas for Play:
Encourage Baby to lift fabric to find the picture.
