Family Book

• Verbally label names of people who mail could be delivered to including mommy, daddy, grandma, and grandpa.
• Pretend to mail letters, putting envelopes in and out of an empty Kleenex box.
• Scribble on paper and put in envelope.
• Peel stickers off paper and put on envelope.
• Deliver mail around the room.

1-2 years

Nursery Rhyme Book

• Make up and sing a simple song while cleaning.
• Take turns imitating movements such as dusting and sweeping.
• Play the toy piano and toy drum set, alternating between parent and child.
• Dust or sweep, while dancing around to music.

2-3 years

Farm Animal Book

• Move farm animals around to different locations to demonstrate spatial concepts such as in, on, under, and over.
• Build a block barnyard for farm animals.
• Squeeze clothespins open and shut.
• Tiptoe around the bedsheet fort, shining the flashlight around the room. Drag a pillow into the bedsheet fort.

2-3 years

Shape Book

• Name food items from grocery ads in magazine or newspaper.
• Think about what should be on your shopping list.
• Recall favorite foods of family members.
• Snip pictures of food or coupons from the paper with scissors.
• Walk around with a brown bag, play money, wallet and coupons and pretend to shop for food.

1-2 years

Play Book

• Give child simple, one-part directions to follow such as wash the cup or pour the water
• Classify dishes by color, or group objects together such as all the cups; or the all saucers.
• Squeeze it again to them the bulb on the baster to fill with water; squeeze again to empty it.
• Push sturdy chair to sink; climb up to play in water.

1-2 years

Shopping Book

• Name the food in the cans and boxes from the cabinet.
• Nest object by size.
• Stack boxes and cans.
• Stoop to remove food boxes or plastic dishes from the cupboard; stand to put them on the counter, and then reverse the process.

2-3 years

Playdoh Book

• Use words to describe actions while playing with playdoh and kitchen tools such as roll, pat push, or cut.
• Sequence steps to make cookies. For example, roll dough, cut with cookie cutter, and put on tray.
• Mix ingredients for Playdoh. Mix 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt 1 cup water, 1 TBS. oil, 1 TBS. cream of tartar, stir and cook.
• Put pretend cookies on tray. Walk around and offer cookies to each family member. /td>

2-3 years

Food Book

• Name the foods in the refrigerator.
• Match halves of plastic fruits.
• Pick up ice cubes with tongs and transfer them from one container to another.
• Put the magnets high on the refrigerator door. Have child stands on tiptoe to get them down.

1-2 years

Peek-a-Boo Book

• Place Sesame Street dolls around the room. Ask, "Where" questions about dolls. Have child point to location of doll.
• Hide a favorite toy in a pillowcase and identify the toy by touch.
• Flip the switch on the flashlight to turn it off and on.
• Crawl under furniture to hide.

1-2 years

Bed Time Book

• Follow simple, one-part directions. Example: "Give baby a drink." Or "Give baby a hug."
• Recall bedtime routine.
• Turn pages singly in the bedtime book.
• Bounce on bed then settle down.

2-3 years

Clothing Book

• Talk about clothing. Example: shoes, socks, shirts, and pants.
• Match clothing by category. Examples: mom, dad, baby, color.
• Zip and unzip the laundry bag.
• Throw or drop sock balls into the laundry basket.

2-3 years

Book of Emotions

• Look in mirror together. Make faces such as happy, sad, silly, or surprised. Provide child with words for these emotions.
• Pretend to be mommy, daddy, lion, frog with dress up props.
• Button and unbutton adult clothes.
• "Model" dress up as child walks across the room, turns, walks back.

1-2 years

Bath Tub Book

• Float toys in the water. Name items to be located and retrieved.·
• Wrap toy in wash cloth and guess what it is.
• Finger paint on the nesting frogs with finger-paint soap.
• Kick and splash to make bubbles.

1-2 years

• Talk about body parts.
• Establish a massage routine. Once the routine is established, pause, and wait for the child to anticipate the next step.
• Squeeze lotion out of the bottle into hand or on arm, leg, toes, etc.
• Roll child up in a towel.

2-3 years

Concept Book

• Use words that describe opposite concepts, such as in and out or wet and dry.
• Sequence pony bath including washing, rinsing, and brushing.
• Pick up the ponytail holders and barrettes and place in a plastic container with small opening.
• Push a chair up to the sink.

2-3 years

Doctor Book

• Ask simple "Who", "What", and "What do" questions. For example ask, "Who is hurt?" or "What will you do?"
• Pretend to call the doctor.
• Peel papers off Band-Aids, and put on self or doll.
• Rock doll back and forth to sooth.

1-2 years

Color Book

• Child repeats the words: bubbles, pop, more, all gone. Some children may combine words: more bubbles, bubbles all gone.
• Take turns blowing and popping bubbles.
• Pop bubbles with fingers.
• Move around to chase bubbles.

1-2 years

Counting Book

• Say the phrase, "One, Two, Three, Go!" together. Pause after each word to encourage child to repeat word or fill in the next word.
• Find ball rolled under obstacle.
• Make paper balls.
• Throw and catch balls.

2-3 years

car book

• Make car, truck and train noises while playing. Examples: varoom, beep-beep, choo-choo.
• Pretend to fix the car, using the toy tools.
• Draw chalk lines or press masking tape down on ground for roads and railroad tracks.
• Walk around with a paper plate as a steering wheel.

2-3 years

Garden Book

• Talk about the different colors of "growing things." Examples: green flowers, red flowers, and orange pumpkins.
• Sequence planting a seed.
• Push finger in dirt to make "holes."
• Walk outside and water the plants using the spray bottle or watering can.
